In our industry we unfortunately have companies representing themselves as local Locksmith companies, setting up PO Box addresses to look like they are in our local region.  What customers do not realized is that the companies are typically from the United States or are dispatched from the GTA and they are untrained people who show up in cars.  They are not equipped or skilled to do the work.  Their objective to mislead the customer that they are unable to work on the customers locks and sell them cheap lock at a very high cost.  They mislead people into thinking they are buying high security locks when they are not.

 

Some tips to remember when hiring a Locksmith

• If they arrive in a car, send them away
• A reputable Locksmith will arrive in a clearly marked vehicle with the company name on it
• Always ask if they are bonded and insured
• If it sounds too good to be true, it is! The biggest scam is a low service call $15-35 and that they will be there in 15 minutes.  They rarely are and if they do not do any work you are still charged for the service call.
